How to Use Dental Floss Effectively

You may be having the habit of flossing which is great. However, in order for dental floss to remove effectively the plaque from your teeth, you should ensure that you make use of the correct technique.

Because you may be required to place your fingers into your mouth during flossing, make sure that you first wash your hands neatly before you even reach for the floss. Then you can be following one of these steps:

• Using enough floss. Break off a any piece which is 18 inches long. That certainly sounds like a lot, but you should be able to keep a completely clean segment in place as you keep moving from tooth to tooth. Wrap much floss around either your middle finger or the index finger from one hand, whichever you choose to and  then a small amount with the middle or index finger of opposite had hand. Remember that using the middle finger would be leaving your index finger free for manipulating the floss.

• Sliding between teeth. Gently ensure that you slide the floss between the teeth in a complete zigzag motion and take care to see that you do not let this floss snap or simply pop between teeth.

• Forming a “C”. Try making a C shape with the floss while you are wrapping it around the tooth. Then ensure that you carefully start pulling the floss in an upward direction from the gum line to the topmost portion of the tooth.

• Rolling along. As you keep moving from one tooth to the other one, make sure you keep unrolling a fresh section of the loss from the finger from one hand while you roll the used floss with the finger of the other hand. You may use your thumb as a guide.

• Reach both sides. Ensure that you do not forget to floss the back side from each tooth.

As long as you make use of the correct technique, the type of floss which you are using is only a matter of personal preference.
